What is the difference between AC and DC Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs)? +
AC and DC MCBs differ fundamentally in how they extinguish the electrical arc generated during a fault. AC current naturally crosses zero volts 50 or 60 times a second, which helps extinguish the arc. DC current is continuous and does not have a zero-crossing point, making the arc much harder to extinguish. Specialized DC MCBs (like our L7 series) feature internal permanent magnets that pull the arc into the arc chute splitter plates to extinguish it rapidly.
How do I select the correct tripping curve (B, C, or D) for my application? +
The tripping curve determines the instantaneous trip current threshold:
  • Curve B: Trips at 3-5 times the rated current. Ideal for resistive loads like electric heating and domestic lighting.
  • Curve C: Trips at 5-10 times the rated current. Standard for inductive loads like small motors, fluorescent lighting, and general commercial circuits.

What is the significance of the breaking capacity (Icn and Ics) in an MCB? +
Icn (Ultimate Short-Circuit Breaking Capacity) is the maximum fault current the MCB can safely interrupt without permanent damage. Ics (Service Short-Circuit Breaking Capacity) is the maximum fault current the MCB can interrupt and still remain operational afterward. A higher Ics/Icn ratio indicates superior contact material quality and robust internal engineering.
